The Federal Supreme Court (STF) issued a decision in which the Legal Assistance Agreement in Criminal Matters (MLAT), enacted by Federal Decree 3,810/2001, was deemed constitutional.

This agreement aims to assist Brazilian criminal investigations and criminal proceedings involving people or assets located in the United States.

Based on the Brazilian Internet Bill of Rights, the decision recognized that Brazilian authorities can request information directly from companies located abroad, as long as such information is related to criminal investigations, without such situation violating the General Data Protection Law (LGPD).
