In July 2024, a law was enacted that provides for the extension of deadlines for completing courses or programs for higher education students and researchers, due to childbirth, birth of a child, adoption or obtaining legal guardianship for adoption purposes, as well as to regulate the extension of the validity periods of scholarships granted by research funding agencies in cases of maternity and adoption provided for in Law No. 13,536/2017.
The law determines that educational institutions must make the necessary adjustments to ensure the completion of courses or programs for those who fit into the situations described above, and must guarantee an extension of at least 180 (one hundred and eighty) days for the completion of subjects, completion, delivery and defense of final work.
An extension of deadlines will also be guaranteed in cases of hospitalization of a child for a period exceeding 30 (thirty) days, in which case the extension will be compatible, at least, with the period of hospitalization.
