It is indisputable that mobility is very important in anyone’s life, but especially in the lives of autistic people who need to move frequently to carry out their treatments.

Below we will list some rights that autistic people have in transportation that you may not know about:

Free Pass on public transport: Law No. 8,899/94 guarantees the granting of free passes to people with disabilities, who are demonstrably needy, on the interstate public transport system.

Specific parking spaces: The Statute for Persons with Disabilities guarantees that parking spaces near access points are designated for vehicles transporting people with disabilities and mobility impairments. These spaces must be properly identified, and the holder must prove their right to them by providing specific identification.

Accessible taxi: The Statute for Persons with Disabilities also provides for the allocation of at least 10% of vehicles in taxi company fleets that are accessible to people with disabilities.

Vehicle rental: The Statute for Persons with Disabilities establishes that vehicle rental companies, for every 20 vehicles in their fleet, must provide 1 vehicle adapted for a person with a disability.

Airline ticket: According to ANAC Resolution, if the presence of a companion is necessary for a person with a disability, the airline will grant a discount of at least 80% of the fare charged to the passenger with a disability.
